IHG plans second Holiday Inn for Goa, India

IHG has signed a management agreement with Dehli, India-based Tipping Point Hospitality Private Limited for the Holiday Inn Goa Candolim in the western Indian state of Goa. The hotel, in the beachfront town of Candolim, is expected to open in November.

The new-build, 110-room Holiday Inn Goa Candolim will be a 30-minute drive from the city center and a 60-minute drive from the Dabolim Airport. The property also is a 15-minute walk from Candolim beach and Sinquerim fort. To attract the city's growing demand for business travelers, the property will have "expansive" meeting space and a business center.

“We are delighted to partner with Tipping Point Hospitality Private Limited to expand our presence in Goa—one of the most sought-after destinations in India,” said Sudeep Jain, VP of development, Southwest Asia, IHG. “The hotel demand in Goa over the past decade has evolved from being solely leisure driven to a more varied base including [meetings, incentives, conferences and exhibitions] and commercial segments. A brand like Holiday Inn with its international appeal, world-class amenities and a great service culture is a perfect fit for this market. This will be our second Holiday Inn hotel in Goa.”

IHG has gained “noteworthy momentum” in India with a number of signings last year, Jain added, especially across the Holiday Inn brand family.

IHG currently has 31 hotels across four brands in India (InterContinental Hotels and Resorts, Crowne Plaza, Holiday Inn and Holiday Inn Express) and a pipeline of 49 hotels due to open in the next two to three years.

Other global companies also are looking to gain a foothold in Candolim. Earlier this month, Hyatt Hotels Corporation rebranded the former Hyatt Place Goa/Candolim as the Hyatt Centric Candolim Goa, making it the brand’s second hotel in India.
