IHG has signed a management agreement with the Arab International Tourism Investment Co. to bring its Voco brand to Egypt, Part of a mixed-use development that will include a mall, the 17,000-square-meter Voco Giza Pyramids is scheduled to open in 2022.

The hotel will be located in Pyramids Gardens in Giza, beside the Grand Egyptian Museum and the main entrance of the Pyramids. A 15-minute drive from the newly opened Sphinx International Airport, the hotel is 30-minutes from the city center.

The new-build, 230-room hotel will have an outdoor pool, a health club and spa as well as 861 square meters of meeting space. There also will be multiple dining options available, from a pool bar to the hotel’s specialty restaurant.

“Cairo has always been a primary market for us and we have maintained a strong presence in the city, with [more than] 2,000 rooms across three brands and a strong pipeline,” said Pascal Gauvin, managing director, India, Middle East and Africa, IHG.

Last month, IHG inked a management agreement with Acico Gulf Real Estate to turn the Nassima Royal Hotel into the Voco Dubai, marking the first signing of the chain's new upscale hotel brand in the Middle East.

IHG currently operates 88 hotels across five brands in the Middle East, including InterContinental Hotels & Resorts, Crowne Plaza Hotels & Resorts, Holiday Inn, Holiday Inn Express and Staybridge Suites, with a further 30 in the development pipeline due to open within the next three to five years (as of Q3 2018).
