IHG to open InterContinental Resort in Japan

IHG will open the 89-room ANA InterContinental Beppu Resort & Spa on August 1. The new-build resort is expected to be the first international luxury resort in Japan's Oita Prefecture.

Public space includes indoor and outdoor traditional Japanese baths that incorporate the local hot spring waters. The resort will also have a spa, a heated infinity pool, several restaurants and bars as well as meeting facilities.

The InterContinental Beppu Resort & Spa is one of four InterContinental Resorts opening in 2019, with InterContinental Hayman Island Resort opening July 1 and InterContinental Maldives Maamunagau Resort and InterContinental Phuket Resort opening in September.

The opening comes on the heels of several other announcements for branded development in Japan. India's Oyo Hotels & Homes is now catering to Japanese demand, Banyan Tree will open a Kyoto hotel in 2022 and Hyatt will bring its Unbound soft brand to the Fuji Raceway that same year. The Hilton Sapporo Park is scheduled to open in 2023.
