LEDs: More guest satisfaction and higher profitability

LEDs, or light-emitting diodes, have revolutionized the lighting industry. LED lighting provides significant energy savings vs. traditional light sources and a long, maintenance-free operating life, making it ideal for every area of your facility. From guestrooms to public spaces (such as corridors, conference rooms, stairwells and lobbies) to outdoor spaces, LED lighting is the perfect solution for properties looking to save on operating expense and improve guest satisfaction.

LEDs are a good choice for guestrooms, where energy-efficient compact fluorescent lights (CFLs) are increasingly more popular than less-efficient traditional incandescent light bulbs. LEDs offer similar efficiency without the one particular flaw found in CFLs ... the dreaded “warm-up” time taken to achieve full brightness. LED lights achieve full brightness as soon as the lights are turned on. A simple switch from CFLs to LEDs could cut out a common complaint for guests: poor lighting.

HOTEL OPTIMIZATION PART 2 | SEPTEMBER 10 & 24, 2020

In public spaces, LEDs are great for hard-to-reach applications and where lights are on for 12-24 hours a day. In many cases, such as for chandeliers that are mounted more than 15 feet above the floor, or high ceilings with recessed can lights, bucket lifts are often needed to reach the light bulbs. Over time, the expense of renting this equipment can add up, straining budgets. LEDs are rated for up to 50,000 hours; at 12 hours a day, that equates to 11 years of maintenance-free operation. Just imagine the savings in energy and labor costs that would come from installing an LED light and then not having to replace it for 11 years.

Keeping outdoor spaces well lit will provide security for hotel guests and staff, while also enhancing curb appeal. Outdoor lights are on for an average of 12 hours a day, and commonly use high-wattage light bulbs like metal halide or high-pressure sodium. Here is another instance where LEDs are a stellar alternative. Whether they are commercial wall packs, flood lights or parking lot pole lights, LED lights offer the highest energy savings, the quickest payback time and the highest ROI in these applications.

So how can you decide which LEDs are right for you? Just ask. Many distributors are happy to send you samples so you can see the different options available to you.

Whichever LED you choose, you can be sure to enjoy long bulb lifespan, high energy efficiency and limited maintenance time from these new stars in the lighting world.
