Global pipeline numbers positive; Middle East leads the way

International Report – The Middle East’s hotel pipeline increase is the highest in the world, up 42 percent as of July, according to numbers from STR Global, which show the Middle East posting the largest growth gains, followed by South America and Asia-Pacific. Of that global pipeline, the majority of hotels in development fall into the upscale chain segment, at 25 percent. The second-largest chunk of the pipeline belongs to unaffiliated hotels at 23 percent, while the lowest globally are economy chains, at 3 percent of the global pipeline, and midscale chains, at 6 percent. Despite the relatively small midscale chain footprint, the combination of upscale chain, upper-midscale chain and midscale chain now comprises nearly half of the entire global pipeline, according to STR.
