Jonathan Crellin appointed managing director of the Boston Park Plaza

The Boston Park Plaza appointed hospitality veteran Jonathan Crellin to the position of managing director. In this role, Crellin will draw on nearly 30 years of experience in the luxury hotel industry and assume leadership of the historic property.

Boston Park Plaza is located in Boston’s Back Bay neighborhood and is in the last stages of a $100-million update that is scheduled for completion in June 2016. The renovation encompasses all 1,060 guestrooms and suites, as well as all public spaces and 50,000 square feet of meeting space. The hotel is managed by hospitality investment and management company Highgate.

“Jonathan’s exemplary reputation makes him the ideal leader to take Boston Park Plaza to the next level,” said Steve Barick, COO of Highgate. “With exceptional industry experience, specifically in the Boston market, Jonathan will be an integral part of our team, leading this high-level repositioning effort.”

In his new role, Crellin will utilize his sales, marketing and operations management background to play a role in guest relations, operations and new business development.

Most recently, Crellin held the roles of managing director and GM at the Boston Harbor Hotel, and served as managing director of the Boston-based hospitality consulting and asset management firm, Whetstone Partners.  Prior to this, Crellin was with Fairmont Hamilton Princess in Bermuda. In 1996, he was also tapped by Boston’s Fairmont Copley Plaza, first to serve as the director of sales and marketing and hotel manager, and then promoted to GM in 2003.

Crellin has won multiple accolades during his extensive career and remains involved in Boston’s local community and hospitality industry. He has been a board member of several Boston foundations and associations, including Massachusetts Lodging Association, ALLY Foundation and Greater Boston Convention and Visitors Bureau. He has also been a guest lecturer at University of Massachusetts at Amherst, Boston University, Johnson & Wales University and Bermuda College.
