Malaysia's Winbond Group has signed agreements with InterContinental Hotels Group for two new Holiday Inn Express hotels in the country's capital city: the Holiday Inn Express Kuala Lumpur City Centre and Holiday Inn Express & Suites Kuala Lumpur Ampang.
Set to open in 2016, the 383-room Holiday Inn Express Kuala Lumpur City Centre will be built on the site of the existing Menara ING office tower in the city's central business district as part of a mixed use development. Expected to be the first Holiday Inn Express in Malaysia when it opens, the hotel will be the fourth for the brand in IHG's development pipeline for the country.
Holiday Inn Express & Suites Kuala Lumpur Ampang will have 240 rooms and 60 suites. Slated for completion in 2018, the hotel will be situated off the financial district of Kuala Lumpur.
Datuk Dr Tang Yong Chew, managing director for the Winbond Group, noted that the brand is one of the fastest growing in the world, and Kuala Lumpur needs more limited-service hotels. "It also supports our strategy to continue diversifying our company's portfolio," he said in a statement.
