Marriott developing TownePlace in Estero, Fla., with assist from Hertz

Marriott is planning to open a TownePlace Suites in Estero, Fla., according to the News-Press. The 114-room hotel will be behind the Coconut Point Mall, which already has a 108-room Hyatt Place. Hertz's relocation of its global headquarters to Estero played a key role in the decision to develop a TownePlace in the area.

Hertz is building a $70-million-plus world headquarters on a 34.5-acre parcel at Williams Road and U.S. 41. Hertz, which is moving from New Jersey, plans to open the building for its 700 employees next year.

"Marriott has a relationship with Hertz. That's why the timeliness mattered," Neale Montgomery, an attorney representing TownePlace Suites Estero, told the News-Press. "Marriott wants to continue that synergy with that partner."

The hotel will be near where Lee Memorial Health System is planning a $140-million health campus.

"When you think about the ongoing efforts to develop a town center for Estero and the health village which is not too far away, having this hotel with this kind of focus can't come at a better time," said Roger Strelow, a member of the Estero Community Planning Panel.

There is still no timeline for when the hotel will exactly open.
