Hawkeye Hotels opens new Iowa Residence Inn

Residence Inn by Marriott Cedar Rapids

Hawkeye Hotels opened a newly constructed Residence Inn by Marriott in the hotel district on the south side of Cedar Rapids, Iowa. This hotel opening will be the seventh property in the Creative Corridor for the Iowa-based Hawkeye Hotels’ portfolio and is one of about dozen new hotels being opened around the country for the company this quarter. The company currently owns four hotels in the Creative Corridor, with three having been sold in recent years. The hotel opened its doors for business on Tuesday, June 28.

Located at 730 33rd Avenue Southwest, the all-suite, extended stay property is miles away from Kirkwood Community College, Coe College, Brucemore Mansion, the National Czech and Slovak Museum and other attractions in Cedar Rapids. The 95-room property is Cedar Rapids’ newest extended-stay hotel, and can accommodate guests traveling to the state’s second largest city for business or tourism.

“Cedar Rapids is a destination city, with an economy that is rapidly growing,” said Raj Patel, chief development officer of Hawkeye Hotels. “The city needs more extended stay hotels to accommodate the increase in traffic. The Residence Inn brand is recognized all over the country for its quality rooms and service, and ability to offer extended stay accommodations to travelers. We’ve had great success in the Cedar Rapids market in the past, and we look forward to being strong partners with the City going forward.”

Each guestroom at the hotel includes separate sleeping and living areas, a sofa bed, a fully-equipped kitchen with refrigerator and microwave and a 37-inch flat panel HDTV. The hotel will serve a complimentary full American breakfast, and Monday through Friday the hotel will offer a social hour called the Residence Inn Mix, which includes light meals or snacks and beverages. Other amenities include an indoor heated pool, fitness center and business center. The hotel will have meeting space that can hold up to 30 people. Users of the space will have the option of a projection screen and whiteboard. The hotel also offers access to a gas fire pit, BBQ area, basketball court and nearby jogging trails.

“Our company is proud to have the opportunity to bring quality hotels to our home state of Iowa, especially to the Creative Corridor,” said Ravi Patel, president of Hawkeye Hotels. “We’re a family-owned company that puts a premium on developing right here in our community whenever we can. Our research shows us that hotels help local economies. If our work can help other local companies be successful, then we’ll continue to build here when we have the opportunity.”
