New-build hotel opens in Versailles, Ohio

Two years after a fire shuttered the Inn at Versailles in downtown Versailles, Ohio, the newly renamed Hotel Versailles has opened on the site. Owner Midmark Corp., a clinical environmental design company, also purchased adjacent properties to be added to the new hotel.

The boutique property has 30 guestrooms and suites, chef Aaron Allen’s seasonal restaurant Silas as well as meeting and event space for up to 200 guests in the 1819 Room.

A New Concept

“After two-and-a-half years of conceptualizing, designing and building this new property, we are all very excited about the outcome and the commitment from our entire team,” Hotel Versailles’ Managing Director Jack Olshan said in a statement. “Working with Ohio-based Kimberly O Design, we have maintained the historical attributes of the property and its rich hospitality lineage, while crafting a new modern-day atmosphere to bring a dynamic, one-of-a-kind upscale boutique hotel to Versailles for locals and visitors alike to enjoy.”

Industry, machinery and  French heritage play into the inspiration of this historic revival design orchestrated by local Ohio firms Kimberly O Design and DK Architect. The hotel’s French-inspired design gives the property a sense of history. Features include the focal-point private dining room table in the restaurant created by Hayrake Furniture Company in Minster, Ohio; the centerpiece window banquette chandelier created by Glass Asylum in Chagrin Falls, Ohio; and locally sourced furnishings and artwork in the hotel, its restaurant and the private event space.

Hotel Versailles also has onsite courtyards and gardens.

Silas Creative Kitchen + Cocktails

Executive Chef Aaron Allen is working with Hotel Versailles’ farmer Katie Bensman to develop the hotel's F&B options. Ingredients for the restaurant, in-room dining and event menus are sourced directly from the property’s nearby Sycamore Bridge Farm, with meats supplied through local partnerships with Winner’s Quality Meats and King’s Poultry Farm.

“As a true farm-to-table experience, each menu at Silas is crafted around ingredients that are seasonally available to source from our 85-acre farm—only minutes away from the hotel,” Allen said.

Additional Amenities

Hotel Versailles’ 1819 Room can accommodate up to 200 guests. The space is equipped with audiovisual capabilities, noise canceling features, a built-in bar, coat check, infant care room and a private courtyard overlooking Versailles’ town square.

Other venues include an updated fitness center equipped with a Peloton bike. Programming will feature farm tours, cooking classes, special dinners and tastings and outdoor activities.

Hotels have occupied the plot since 1865. The property is close to the Eldora Speedway, Stillwater Valley Golf Club and The Winery at Versailles.
