Dream Hotel Group appointed Matthew Whiteheart general manager of the Unscripted Durham in Durham, N.C. Whiteheart has nearly 15 years of experience in the hospitality industry, including a decade in management roles at The Umstead Hotel and Spa in Cary, N.C.
As GM, Whiteheart oversees day-to-day management and operations of the 74-room hotel and its food-and-beverage outlets. The hotel features five restaurants and bars, including a rooftop pool deck and lounge and three street-level restaurants. Dream Hotel Group opened the hotel, its flagship location for its Unscripted Hotels brand, in July 2017 following a $19.5 revitalization. The hotel is located in historic downtown Durham within walking distance of the American Tobacco Campus, Durham Bulls Athletic Park and the Durham Performing Arts Center.
Whiteheart spent a little over 10 years at his last hotel, The Umstead Hotel and Spa, where he most recently served as director of rooms. Before starting there, he held roles at the Washington Duke Inn and Golf Club in Durham, N.C.; Sebasco Harbor Resort in Phippsburg, Maine; and Corolla Light Resort in Corolla, N.C.
