Marriott casino hotel begins construction in Schenectady, N.Y.

A new Marriott hotel is under construction in Schenectady, N.Y., on the site of a future casino.

The construction of the future Rivers Casino and Resort at Mohawk Harbor is officially under way, kicked off by the establishment of its adjoining Marriott hotel. Workers have started on the foundation and piles are being driven for the hotel.

The Planning Commission of Schnectady unanimously approved the site plan earlier this year, which called for a four-story facility that is part of the $450-million project being built at the former Alco property. The hotel is the first part of the project to begin construction.

The debuts consisted of a Hotel RL in St. Louis, a Tru by Hilton in Springfield and a SpringHill Suites by Marriott in Kansas City.

The appointments include new general managers, directors of sales and marketing and a cluster revenue manager at the corporate level.
