STR: U.S. hotel occupancy inches back up

U.S. weekly hotel occupancy climbed back to the 40 percent mark, according to STR's latest data through Jan. 16.

For the week of Jan. 10-16, occupancy reached 40.1 percent, down 31.8 percent from the comparable week in 2020. Average daily rate was $89.39, down 31.9 percent, while revenue per available room was $35.85, down 53.6 percent.

Top Markets

Aggregate data for the top 25 markets showed lower occupancy (38.4 percent) but higher ADR ($95.94) than all other markets.

Among the top 25 mrkets, Tampa/St. Petersburg, Fla. (53.8 percent), reported the highest occupancy level.

Top 25 markets with the lowest occupancy levels for the week included Oahu Island, Hawaii (22.1 percent), and Minneapolis/St. Paul/Wisconsin (27 percent).
