Historic Rome neighborhood to welcome boutique hotel

Rome's historic Regola neighborhood is getting a new boutique hotel this spring, the 42-room hotel Chapter Roma. It's the first property in the newly established Chapter Italia portfolio developed by Marco Cilia, formerly of Hotel Americano in New York City.

“We are introducing a new vibe for hospitality in Regola with the opening of Chapter Roma,” said Cilia. “I was born here, and it is important that we put our guests in the Italian state of mind; protecting Rome’s design heritage while celebrating the future with genuine and original design, service and food-and-beverage offerings. With Chapter Roma we’re telling the first part of our story. We want to create a place where guests truly feel like they’re living like a local.”

Slated to open in March as a member of the Design Hotels collection, the hotel is part of a building that dates back to 1880. South Africa-based designer Tristan Du Plessis of Studio A is updating the property with an "industrial-chic, sultry style" that connects the building to the city's history. The guestrooms are centered on a few statement pieces in otherwise minimalistic spaces with custom-made vanity-cum-storage solutions.

Opening onto Via Santa Maria dei Calderari, a bar features Roman arches wrapped in raw steel throughout and will be a hybrid space for work and socializing. Chapter Roma also will have an all-organic daytime market and will open a signature restaurant later in the year.
