TRH Interior Design draws inspiration from Canyons Village for $15M Grand Summit Hotel renovation

Grand Summit Hotel, Canyons Village at Park City’s lodging property, will undergo renovation this spring and reopen as a RockResorts property.

Grand Summit Hotel, Canyons Village at Park City’s lodging property, will undergo a $15-million renovation this spring before reopening as a RockResorts property mid-summer.

The renovation will include a complete overhaul of all 212 suites, including new interior finishes, furnishings, soft goods, appliances, artwork and technology. The property’s communal spaces will also be incorporated into the renovation, including the lobby and front desk, full remodel of the on-site spa, café and general store, and refresh of the conference and meeting spaces.

The interior design work will be conducted by Boulder, Colo.-based TRH Interior Design, which also designed and transformed other Vail Resorts properties, such as Crystal Peak Lodge in Breckenridge, Colo.; Westin Snowmass Resort; and the Lumiere Hotel in Telluride.

Virtual Event

Survival in these times is highly dependent on a hotel's ability to quickly adapt and pivot their business to meet the current needs of travelers and the surrounding community. Join us for Optimization Part 2 – a FREE virtual event – as we bring together top players in the industry to discuss alternative uses when occupancy is down, ways to boost F&B revenue, how to help your staff adjust to new challenges and more, in a series of panels focused on how you can regain profitability during this crisis.

The color palette of the renovation will reportedly be inspired by the surrounding area and will also reflect the outdoors and views seen from the Grand Summit. Greens, coppers and golden-tans will evoke the trees, sky, mountains and rivers just outside the property.

Materials such as wood, stone, iron and leather will be layered together to create a mountain experience. Porcelain, slate and stainless steel will also be woven throughout the kitchens and bathrooms and highlighted with new light fixtures throughout.

The Grand Summit’s design will incorporate technology into its furnishings as new headboards will have power outlets, USB ports and reading lights. Each room will also have new 55-inch TVs with "smart" options.

The new artwork will include a combination of historic Park City images with "more lively" pieces for "a splash of energy and color."

Following the renovation, the Grand Summit Hotel will be reflagged as a RockResort. RockResorts is a division of Vail Resorts, which owns and operates a collection of properties, RockResorts Spas and dining options in mountain locations.

The Grand Summit Hotel is located in the heart of Canyons Village at Park City. It has 212 lock-off suites, including hotel rooms, studios, one-, two- and three-bedroom suites and luxury penthouses. Many rooms have balconies, fireplaces, double showers and full kitchens with service for eight guests.
