As marketing manager for Best Western Hotel & Resorts, Goebel oversees the regional and digital marketing budgets as well as all loyalty program acquisition goals for the North East, Mid Atlantic, Florida and the Caribbean. He advises hotel members in each area on where their marketing dollars should be spent to return the highest revenue.
What is the most pressing challenge you’ve faced on the job in the last year? How did you resolve it?
One of the most pressing challenges I have faced at Best Western was joining the distribution team specifically during our brand-wide partnership with Expedia. I had first been tasked with being the go-to for Expedia Partner Central for our hotels that were beginning to be rolled out onto the Expedia platform. This turned into managing the rollout/setup of Best Western and Expedia after the two previous employees tasked with the job removed themselves from it. I was “the next man up” and had to adapt and learn on the fly as we were halfway through the rollout process. By the end of my first six months, we had successfully connected over 1,000 properties around the world. I was able to keep my composure and focus by relying heavily on the team around me.
