Starwood to open three Element hotels in Greater China

Looking to position its Element brand to meet demand in China, Starwood Hotels & Resorts Worldwide announced last week plans to open three new Element hotels in Zhangjiakou, Sanya and Tianjin.

The  first will be Element Chongli in Zhangjiakou, which will open in 2017 in a city that will co-host the Beijing 2022 Winter Olympics. The property will include 150 rooms and be located just a short 30-minute drive from the Chongli County Center.

The Element Sanya Haitang Bay will open the next year in the resort town of Sanya. It is planned as a 204-room hotel.

Element Tianjin Beiche will open in 2019 with 200 rooms.

Starwood opened the first Element hotel in Asia Pacific in Suzhou, China, in June of this year at the Suzhou Science and Technology Town. The hotel has 188 rooms and suites.

Element Hotels seek to re-imagine extended stays and provide eco-friendly environments. Element signed 19 deals in 2014 and was on track to triple its portfolio of properties by 2017.

“Element is experiencing tremendous growth momentum and the brand’s debut in Asia Pacific is set to pave the way for more growth opportunities in the region,” said Brian McGuiness, Senior Vice President of Specialty Select Brands for Starwood in June.
