Hospitality technology company Liverton Group has launched digital wallet room keys through its SmartStay guest platform.
The latest update to the SmartStay platform is designed to enable guests to unlock hotel rooms using Apple Wallet or Google Wallet without downloading a separate app. The new functionality allows guests to complete digital check-in via web, mobile device or self-service kiosk, receive physical or digital room keys and proceed directly to their rooms.
The digital keys also provide access to approved common areas, including lifts and gyms, and automatically deactivate at check-out. According to the New Zealand-based company, the system is designed to help accommodation operators reduce front desk congestion, manage staffing challenges and streamline arrivals.
“Guests already expect to use their phone for almost everything,” Justin De Lille, CEO of Liverton Group, said in a statement. “They pay with it, fly with it, access event tickets with it. Hospitality is moving in the same direction, and the experience needs to feel just as seamless.”
The platform has been developed to integrate with major property management system and locking providers, allowing hotels to add digital wallet access without replacing existing infrastructure. Digital wallet keys use encrypted credentials stored on personal devices for added security, according to Liverton Group.
