Green Key Global sustainability certification program launches April 1

April 1 marks a momentous occasion for Green Key Global, a joint-venture company between the American Hotel & Lodging Association and the Hotel Association of Canada, as the formal partnership goes into effect.

Green Key Global leading is an international environmental certification body recognized by the Global Sustainable Tourism Council (GSTC), offering standardized programs and resources designed specifically for the hotel and meetings industries. This partnership builds upon on AHLA’s Responsible Stay initiative, launched last December, which aligned AHLA member companies’ commitment around four key pillars of sustainability: energy efficiency, water conservation, waste reduction and responsible sourcing.

According to AHLA, the AHLA-HAC partnership is crucial for the industry, as sustainability is increasingly shaping the behavior of leisure, business and group travelers. Green Key Global programming is designed to give credibility to the sustainability initiatives properties are already undertaking, while equipping them with a plan for continued improvement. Benefits of certification through Green Key Global include consumer trust, improved fiscal performance and receiving personalized recommendations on how to decrease utility consumption, waste and emissions.
