InterContinental Buckhead unveils first phase of renovation

In Georgia, the InterContinental Buckhead Atlanta is undergoing a comprehensive renovation that will be completed this summer.

The property-wide transformation will be completed in two phases, the first of which will be unveiled this month. This phase will include the opening of The Americano, helmed by celebrity chef Scott Conant, design updates to the hotel’s lobby lounge, a new breakfast cafe, and enhancements across the more than 31,000 square feet of meetings and events space.

Chicago-based KTGY Simeone Deary Design Group was tapped to redesign the hotel’s interior spaces including the entryway, check-in area, main lobby, meetings spaces and the Club Lounge as well as the guestrooms and suites. The concept was based on Atlanta’s Southern roots—the state symbols of the peach, honeybee and Cherokee rose.

Lisa Simeone, principal of KTGY Simeone Deary Design Group, said the overall design is “traditional with a twist—with the twist being the custom artwork by Niki Zarrabi throughout.”

Phase One

The hotel's new Americano restaurant is led by two-time James Beard Award-winning chef and restaurateur Scott Conant. The three-meal restaurant includes a bespoke café for coffee and pastries.

The restaurant's design includes modern art, sculptures and mood lighting. The dining room has butcher block tables and crescent-shaped booths, while the outdoor terrace includes wicker chairs with thick cushions and stone-topped tables. The space also has a private dining room.

The newly renovated great hall on the ground floor has rose marble floors and natural light from the private outdoor garden. Large-scale abstract paintings by local mixed-media artist Niki Zarrabi are a focal point of the space. The breakfast café just off the lobby is also overseen by Scott Conant and The Americano culinary team. The property also now serves grab-and-go selections.

This is the first major renovation since the hotel opened in November 2004, and comes on the heels of the brand’s 75th anniversary.
