Marriott rolls out new Courtyard prototype, renovation project

The Courtyard by Marriott brand is set to update more than 375 of the brand’s earliest generation hotels throughout the U.S. and Canada. The properties will get new interiors and exteriors by 2024, including the refreshed Courtyard logo. More than 60 properties have already been upgraded.

“Over 38 years ago, Courtyard was the first hotel brand specifically for business travelers. Our new design strategy builds on that Courtyard legacy in ways that are perfectly suited for both leisure and business travelers,” said Diane Mayer, VP and global brand leader, Classic Select Brands, Marriott International. “As the pioneer amongst select-service brands, Courtyard continues to adapt to the changing ways that guests live, work, and play through thoughtful innovation to provide the best possible guest experience.”

New Exteriors

The new façade of the buildings will include a redesigned porte cochere, reframed and repainted exterior surfaces, ambient lighting, new signage and updated landscaping. Wood tones with gray hues will work with new plantlike that aims to accentuate the architectural elements of the hotel while creating an open, unobstructed view.

New Prototype

In addition to the renovations, Courtyard has introduced its newest generational prototype. Both the exterior and interior design will be adopted by earlier-generation hotels.

The urban-inspired lobby will have individual check-in desks with wooden textures and modern light fixtures. The center focal point of the lobby is the casual The Bistro Bar. The open lobby also has a large communal table as well as media pods, each with their own TV screens and a residential sectional sofa.

In the back of the lobby, increased lounge seating is anchored by large windows with views of the outdoor courtyard complete with firepits and relaxed outdoor seating.

Courtyard’s expanded fitness centers have dedicated weightlifting and stretching areas as well as exercise equipment. Open 24/7, the redesigned fitness centers will also include a dedicated hydration station.

New Guestrooms

Courtyard’s newly designed guestrooms have solid colors in a warm and neutral palette as well as subtle accents for a pop of color. The platform bed is anchored by a plush upholstered headboard, illuminated by cove lighting that can be dimmed from the bed. A specially designed sleeper sofa with an accompanying ottoman can fold out into a full-sized bed for extra space. The valet station has a refrigerator and coffeemaker, and the 55-inch TV can be pulled out and swiveled for viewing from either the bed or sofa.

At participating hotels, guestrooms will have electronic locks that allow guests to enter their rooms via a digital room key on the Marriott Bonvoy Mobile App.

The new prototype will be available at the Courtyard Jacksonville (Fla.) Butler Boulevard; Courtyard Boulder (Colo.); Courtyard San Diego Miramar in San Diego; Courtyard Raleigh/Cary (N.C.) Crossroads; and Courtyard Memphis (Tenn.) East/Galleria.
