Napa Valley resort starts guestroom remodel

The Meritage Resort and Spa in Napa, Calif., is updating its 322 guestrooms. The remodel, spearheaded by HBA San Francisco, includes updating and modernizing the resort’s 157 Meritage guestrooms and 165 Bordeaux guestrooms. Completion is slated for March 2024.

The new design of the Meritage guestrooms is inspired by its location in Napa Valley with neutral tones and touches of natural linen, warm leather accents and aged metal details.

“Leather detailing and metal hardware showcase elevated craftsmanship in a sophisticated interpretation of an equestrian aesthetic,” Sarah Hullinger, senior project designer, HBA San Francisco, said in a statement. “Wood, leather, metal and stone are carried through the furnishings and fixtures, bringing a slightly masculine element of rustic comfort, while linen fabric and curved lines at the coffee niche balance the room with an approachable softness.”

Once completed, the Meritage guestrooms will have new broadloom carpeting with a modern basket weave pattern, fresh paint, drapery and furniture including deep wingback chairs with an ottoman, patio furniture, decorative lighting and lamps with a dark bronze finish, new accessories and amenities including Frette Linens for the bedding and updated millwork in the coffee niche. At the bath entry, a dark barn door will provide contemporary contrast to the fresh white walls. Guestroom baths will get updated vanities, decorative stone backsplash, lighted mirrors and decorative sconces. The corridors will also debut new decorative lighting, carpet, wallcovering, paint and stone flooring.

In the Bordeaux guestrooms, the interiors will be inspired by the agricultural history and grains of Napa in a natural, tonal color scheme with finishes with a slightly rustic touch that evokes the resort’s wine country locale. The guestrooms will have decorative lighting with a mix of dark bronze and brushed brass, new wallcoverings that highlight a subtle geometric texture to give softness and depth to the room, fabrics of a neutral pallet with an organic feel and new broadloom carpet with a modern, geometric design.

“With a nod to the Mission-style architecture of the resort, the furniture of the Bordeaux guestrooms was selected to be timeless providing an updated expression of relaxed California elegance,” said Hullinger. “We took a minimalistic approach to keep rooms looking clean and uncluttered.”

Like the Meritage guestrooms, the Bordeaux guestrooms will also get new drapery, furniture and patio furniture, new art and accessories, amenities including Frette Linens and updated millwork in the coffee niche. The bathrooms will get new vanities with lighted mirrors and decorative sconces. The corridors will also have new decorative lighting, wallcovering and paint.

The Meritage Resort and Spa’s guestroom renovations are part of a series of enhanced upgrades at the property following a $25 million investment from the Busch family and Pacific Hospitality Group. Additional upgrades to the property include the recently remodeled 15,929-square-foot Meritage ballroom and 7,358-square-feet Carneros ballroom as well as The Village Bistro, a pop-up dining experience that opened in July. Future upgrades include a refreshed lobby and lobby bar, Blend restaurant, Crush lounge, a new steakhouse as well as a champagne bar and pool area.
