MGM Grand launches remodel of newly named Studio Tower

In Las Vegas, the MGM Grand Hotel & Casino has kicked off a room remodel of its Studio Tower, reflecting a retro desert feel with a midcentury modern design and décor aesthetic. The 700 new rooms will be fully renovated by this winter.

MGM Resorts International Design Group, in partnership with Los Angeles-based hospitality design firm Avenue Interior Design, drew inspiration from the midcentury design style of Palm Springs, incorporating a desert palette of pinks and chartreuse greens with clean lines and soft shapes. Rooms in the new Studio Tower (formerly known as West Wing) have rounded window seats, enlarged headboards, globe sconces and artwork that accentuates the sculptural furnishings.

“We envisioned bringing a bit of nostalgia to MGM Grand that reinvents the past while incorporating a modernized version of mid-century Palm Springs,” Ashley Manhan Justman, co-founder and co-creative director at Avenue Interior Design, said in a statement. “We designed an exclusive retreat with a stylish color palette, contemporary furniture and geometric wall coverings to bring to life a retro chic vacation revival.”

Each guest bathroom will have space-saving barn doors, an illuminated vanity, marble shower floors and all new chrome fixtures. All rooms will also incorporate modern elements like a built-in recessed minibar, an open closet and additional shelving.

“We wanted to make a fresh statement with our new Studio Tower rooms by creating a relaxing atmosphere that appeals to not only leisure travelers here on vacation, but also our business travelers looking for a refreshing reprieve after a long day of meetings," MGM Grand’s President and COO Michael Neubecker said. "With this remodel, we found innovative ways to enlarge spaces and upgrade amenities while adding modern conveniences so our guests can truly enjoy a comfortable sanctuary during their stay.”

Completion of all guestrooms is scheduled for December with the first collection of rooms available for guest stays in late October.
