Newport Beach Marriott gets new name, new look

Following an extensive renovation, the Vea Newport Beach, a Marriott Resort & Spa in California, is set to officially debut this spring.

Formerly the Newport Beach Marriott Hotel & Spa, the property—owned by Eagle Four Partners and Lyon Living—is getting new coastal-inspired guestrooms, the introduction of two new suite categories, three new restaurant and bar concepts, a  spa and fitness center, new indoor and outdoor event spaces and an updated pool experience.

"As Newport Beach locals ourselves, we are proud to present something created by the community, for the community," said Kory Kramer of Eagle Four Partners in a statement. "Our objective was to create a resort experience authentic to the Newport Beach community, while being a California coastal destination unlike any other."

The Design

"Eagle Four Partners and Lyon Living's inspiration for Vea emanated from various international flavors and travels around the globe, establishing contemporary, cosmopolitan influences from the world's greatest waterfront destinations," said Kevin Martin of Eagle Four Partners.

Translating to "see," Vea's name reflects the ocean and city views of its Newport Beach location. As such, the design team emphasized the hotel's ocean views throughout the renovation. Architecture and design firms HBA, Gensler, Burton Studio and Houston Tyner Architects used warm woods, muted neutrals, marble and sculptural glass for a high-design look without excessive complexity.

Vea's lobby will have folding glass NanaWalls on both the front and backside of the lobby, opening an entire wall of the space to create an indoor-outdoor experience. The entrance will have a pier-inspired architectural element and a large circular waterfall that leads into the lobby (a space enveloped by wave-inspired millwork and with a view of the ocean beyond). In addition to a restaurant and lounge that opens up to the lanai area (with golf course and ocean views), the lobby will display curated, commissioned artwork and a European-inspired coffee bar and patisserie that transitions into a wine bar in the evening.

All guestrooms will be completely redesigned with soft, beach-inspired color palettes of tans, greys and blues as well as minimal artwork to promote the views. Some rooms will have private firepits.

The four-bedroom group suites will have a full kitchen with Bosch, Fisher & Paykel, U-Line and Perlick appliances.

The decor of the wellness/mindful-focused suites will include soft, muted colors and natural elements like wood, marble and stone, as well as spacious bathrooms with spa products and deep soaking tubs with bath salts. VEA will not only be a destination for socialization, but also for relaxation, making these suites a fitting choice for travelers looking to unwind, experience additional wellness offerings beyond a typical guestroom, and seek rest and respite.

The hotel will also get three new food and beverage destinations, including a restaurant and lounge with indoor and outdoor elements, a European-style coffee bar and patisserie in the lobby lounge that will become a wine bar in the evening and a poolside terrace bar.

The 14,000-square-foot spa will have 14 treatment rooms, a dedicated saltwater pool and fitness center with a yoga studio. The spa pool will also get new cabanas, a private event lawn with a fireplace and lounge seating.

The hotel is also developing more than 60,000-square-feet of indoor/outdoor event space.
