Sacramento Autograph Collection hotel completes renovations

The Citizen Hotel, an Autograph Collection property in downtown Sacramento, Calif., has completed a multimillion-dollar renovation that is is meant to bring a contemporary feel to the historic property, located in the Cal-West Insurance Building, first opened in 1926.

The renovation upgraded each of the hotel's 196 guestrooms and suites and revamped its 9,900 square feet of meetings and events space. The new look, developed by Southern California interior architecture studio Indidesign, combines the building’s 1920s history with the capital city’s deep political heritage and the tradition of private members’ clubs.

The redesigned guestrooms, including 19 one-bedroom and junior suites, have a warm color palette combining neutral tones of slate and grey with vibrant pops of deeply saturated jewel tones in indigo and Aureolin yellow. Bespoke textiles, custom designed by Indidesign, are inspired by period etchings, and juxtaposed with complementary textiles reflecting men’s suits. Each room has custom-designed furniture. A 650-square-foot Governor’s Suite and two 575-square-foot Presidential Suites have wet bars, extended living areas and private balconies featuring Capitol and city views.

Unique to The Citizen Hotel, curated artwork collections give new life to a small selection of handpicked, historical Sacramento Bee satirical cartoons that are intrinsic to the hotel’s history and the political theme woven throughout The Citizen Hotel experience.

In addition to the newly redesigned spaces, The Citizen Hotel has several onsite amenities including the property’s signature Grange Restaurant & Bar. The restaurant, helmed by Executive Chef Dane Blom, has a grand, two-story wine vault, bar and lounge scene with extensive wine and cocktail list, and farm-to-table menu featuring ingredients sourced from the region’s farming community.
