IHG plans new Crowne Plaza for Mexico City

IHG Hotels & Resorts has signed a new-build Crowne Plaza hotel on Mexico City’s Avenida de los Insurgentes. Scheduled to break ground in early 2024 ahead of a planned 2026 opening, Crowne Plaza Mexico City Insurgentes will serve as a regional halo property for the brand.

IHG will collaborate with owner Fideicomiso 1870/2014 and designer Interaq on Crowne Plaza Mexico City Insurgentes’ blueprint, construction and operational plans. Each of the hotel’s 230 guestrooms will include the brand’s signature Plaza Workspace, a bundle of adaptive meeting areas and private soundproof booths in the hotel’s public area available to guests and the general public. The hotel also will have a rooftop bar and a to-be-named restaurant concept befitting of its location.

“Mexico City remains a popular destination for travelers of all kinds,” Fideicomiso 1870/2014 President Felix Jafif said in a statement. “With the modern shift to more blended travel, we’re confident that Crowne Plaza’s flexible design and proven reputation will make this hotel a welcome addition to our city. We look forward to working with IHG Hotels & Resorts on a successful build and opening.”

The property will be close to many of the city’s most visited destinations, including local and regional corporate offices and professional buildings as well as the Azul Football Stadium, Theater of the Insurgents and World Trade Center Mexico City lifestyle complex and cultural center.

IHG has more than 520 open or in-pipeline Crowne Plaza properties in major global cities and resort locations. The brand’s growth plan includes the renovation of three-fourths of its existing Americas estate by 2025 and the addition of more than 120 new hotels worldwide.
