InterContinental Hotels & Resorts, part of IHG Hotels & Resorts’ luxury and lifestyle portfolio, will open InterContinental Indianapolis this winter. Located near to the Monument Circle and the Indiana State Capitol, the property will redefine hospitality in Indianapolis.
The hotel will have 170 appointed guestrooms and suites, along with by two new dining concepts including the first rooftop bar in the city, a 24-hour fitness center, 5,000 square feet of event and meeting space and the city’s only Penthouse Suite on a private floor with views of Monument Circle.
Locally developed and owned by Keystone Group, InterContinental Indianapolis is housed in the historic Illinois Building that was originally built in 1926. InterContinental Indianapolis will open following a $110 million restoration.
The Illinois Building, located at the center of downtown Indy, was listed as one of the state’s 10 most endangered landmarks until being purchased by Keystone Group. With the addition of an entire floor, the now 11-story hotel features a granite and limestone exterior with Moderne bas relief panels and topped with gold-glazed terra cotta cornice. Facets of the building’s original ornate lobby have been preserved which will seamlessly blend in with a new contemporary canopy.
“We are thrilled to open our doors soon in downtown Indianapolis and bring this historic property to life,” Michael Moros, general manager of InterContinental Indianapolis, said in a statement. “The Illinois Building is a true city landmark, making it the perfect fit for what we are creating. Both local guests and those traveling to Indy can soon experience the exceptional luxury service and hospitality the InterContinental brand is known for throughout the world.”
