Newport, R.I., hotel readies for summer debut

The new-build 84-room Hammetts Hotel in Newport, R.I., is set to open this summer.

Designed by Providence, R.I.-based Union Studio Architecture & Community to evoke Newport’s historic mercantile wharves in a modern context, the top two floors of the hotel have 42 guestrooms per level. With interiors by international design firm DiLeonardo, the guestrooms have a color palette of grays, whites, unfinished woods, and pops of reds and navy. Antiqued black iron sconces, polished nickel pendant lamps and touches of wood accent the room décor and give the rooms an industrial chic vibe. Statement headboards are upholstered in dark navy fabrics then framed with black iron and distressed leather straps. The beds are Serta Presidential Line with Mascioni linens. Wood sliding pocket doors provide access to private bathrooms with subway-tiled walls and contrasting black matte fixture finishes and walk-in showers.

Public spaces include a lobby lounge with floor-to-ceiling windows, a guest lounge, two meeting rooms, a fitness center and a 9,000-square-foot deck. The restaurant Giusto at Hammetts Hotel is scheduled to open this summer with a private dining room, a semiopen kitchen and an outdoor bar.

Main Street Hospitality Group manages the hotel.
