Red Roof is making its first move into Canada, unveiling plans to open a Red Roof PLUS+ hotel near Vancouver International Airport as part of a broader international growth strategy.
The company has partnered with Richmond Airport Enterprises Ltd. to convert the Travelodge Hotel Vancouver Airport into the Red Roof PLUS+ Vancouver Airport. The 160-room property is scheduled to open in July, with presales already underway ahead of this summer’s global soccer event.
Located in Richmond, British Columbia, the hotel is undergoing a comprehensive renovation supported by a significant capital investment. The property will operate under Red Roof’s upscale-economy PLUS+ brand and is positioned to serve both business and leisure travelers visiting the Vancouver market. This is the first of many properties that Red Roof expects to convert in Canada over the next several years, the company said, noting that Richmond Airport Enterprises brings both development expertise and deep local market knowledge to the partnership.
"Canadians are already well acquainted with, and trust, the Red Roof brand through frequent travel to the United States," Red Roof President Zack Gharib said in a statement. "Our brand focuses on delivering smart amenities, modern design and reliable service at a competitive price point — making us an ideal choice for both leisure and business travelers."
The hotel will include amenities aimed at higher-value travelers, including a 24-hour business center, upgraded fitness center, indoor pool and hot tub, and on-site parking that can accommodate buses and motor coaches. Guestrooms will have microwaves, mini-refrigerators, in-room safes, desks and 65-inch televisions, along with free high-speed Wi-Fi and complimentary local and long-distance calls within Canada.
Gharib also pointed to Vancouver’s performance fundamentals as a key factor in the company’s entry strategy, citing the market’s recent hotel performance growth and its position as a national leader in RevPAR.
The Red Roof PLUS+ brand represents the highest tier within the company’s portfolio, offering upgraded design and premium-room options while maintaining an economy price point.
Salim Mukadam, senior vice president of operations for Richmond Airport Enterprises, said the project reflects a long-term partnership approach. “This launch positions Red Roof PLUS+ Vancouver Airport as a standout addition to the market,” he said, “and supports Red Roof’s global expansion objectives.”
