At Procure Impact, we believe that responsible sourcing goes beyond spending power—it’s about the transformative impact every transaction can have to unlock the human potential within underserved communities. As the hospitality industry strives toward responsible sourcing, more opportunities arise for people who have historically been overlooked by traditional employment pathways. Through the Dignity of Work pledge, launched in partnership with the American Hotel and Lodging Association, hotels across the United States are investing in meaningful work for those with barriers to employment.
Dillon’s Story: A Success Born from Inclusive Employment
One shining example of an individual transformed by the Dignity of Work initiative is Dillon, a disabled adult who works full-time at the Prospector Theater. The Prospector Theater is not just a theater—it’s a nonprofit that provides dignified, meaningful employment to people with disabilities through its operations and its successful online popcorn business.
After a challenging start as a grocery bagger, Dillon’s life changed when he joined Prospector Theater, where his skills and potential were recognized and nurtured. In his role, Dillon quickly grew to take on new responsibilities such as working in their HR department. For the past two years, Dillon has been able to live independently where he enjoys paying his own bills, cooking delicious meals and truly thriving on his own. Dillon’s journey is a testament to the power of inclusive employment and the dignity of work, showing how a supportive workplace can unlock personal growth, self-sufficiency and fulfillment.
The Impact of the Dignity of Work Pledge
The Dignity of Work pledge, driven by Procure Impact and AHLA, empowers hospitality groups to create social impact through everyday purchases. Each purchase from vetted suppliers creates shift hours for vulnerable communities, extending the hospitality industry’s reach from individual guests to overlooked populations within the United States.
We are proud to announce that 23 hospitality partners across the AHLA network have collectively committed to creating over 100,000 employment hours, pioneering innovative ways to amplify inclusion, and uplift those with barriers to work through responsible sourcing.
