AXIS completes architectural design for Hilton Arcadia project

AXIS Architecture & Design has completed the architectural design for the Hilton Arcadia, a project that blends adaptive reuse with new construction.

Located adjacent to Santa Anita Park in Arcadia, Calif., the hotel's design aims to draw architectural cues from the neighboring racetrack's Art Deco and Streamline Moderne grandstand and pavilion buildings. The exterior incorporates curved forms, vertical window patterns and a contemporary façade intended to reference the historic architecture while establishing a modern identity along Huntington Drive. The design also seeks to unify the property's renovated and newly constructed sections into a single architectural composition.

The project required the integration of an existing office building with a new hotel structure, presenting challenges related to differing structural systems, floorplates, building codes and circulation patterns, according to AXIS. The company added that the design team developed a layout intended to provide a seamless guest experience across the two building types while supporting the operational requirements of a full-service Hilton hotel.

Interior design for the property was developed by Atwater Inc. Studio, whose work is designed to complement the architectural concept throughout the hotel's public spaces and guestrooms. The Hilton Arcadia was led by AXIS' Los Angeles studio and represents the firm's continued work in hospitality architecture, adaptive reuse and mixed-construction hotel developments.
