The Hospitality Show, now in its second year, will take place at the Henry B. González Convention Center in San Antonio from Oct. 28-30. The Show will bring together 5,000 attendees and promises to drive profitability for owners, operators and hospitality innovators through dedicated content, extensive networking and 400+ operations and technology vendors.
In this installment of The Hospitality Show Advisory Board Member Q&A, we catch up with Neha Jaitpal, Global General Manager of Honeywell Hospitality.
What do you think is the biggest problem for the industry currently?
The hospitality industry currently faces challenges with talent shortages and retention, which affect every aspect of hotel operations and are crucial for delivering an exceptional guest experience. Adding to this, inflation has driven up operational costs, placing substantial pressure on profit margins. This combination creates a complex environment, making it more difficult than ever to strike a delicate balance between efficiency and the evolving guest experience.
What new trends do you see affecting the hospitality industry the most in 2024?
In 2024, the hospitality industry is increasingly influenced by advancements in technology and a strong focus on sustainability. AI-driven building management systems are enhancing operational efficiencies and personalizing guest experiences by optimizing energy use and streamlining maintenance. Additionally, there is a growing adoption of smart building technologies to support environmental goals and help reduce operational costs. These trends are aligning with consumer demands for eco-friendly and modern accommodations.
What do you see as the biggest opportunities for the industry this year?
The biggest opportunities are in leveraging technology to enhance guest experiences and streamline operations. Advances in AI and data analytics can provide deeper insights into customer preferences and operational efficiencies. The industry is embracing these innovations, but sometimes it can be harder for budget- or limited-service hotels to adapt as quickly as the high-end resorts that may have larger budgets. At Honeywell, we recently launched INNCOM Direct, an energy management solution designed for mid-market hotels, lowering the barrier to entry for advanced automation solutions for hospitality.
What do you think the industry's biggest accomplishment has been in the past year?
One of the industry’s greatest accomplishments has been the rapid adoption and integration of advanced technology that enables “contactless” services. While its acceleration was in response to a need for proper guest health and safety protocols during the pandemic, it has continued to evolve into a critical aspect of creating a seamless, friction-free guest experience. Through advancements in automation, like Onity’s DirectKey technology allowing guests to unlock their door with a mobile app, hotels can offer self-service and contactless services to guests. Over the last few years, the resilience shown in adapting to these new standards while maintaining high levels of service is a testament to the industry’s agility and commitment.
