The Atterbury, Autograph Collection has opened in downtown Pittsburgh following the restoration of the historic Fulton Building by owner RLJ Lodging Trust.
The 300-room hotel joins Marriott Bonvoy's Autograph Collection and is located near Market Square, the Allegheny Riverfront, PNC Park and the David L. Lawrence Convention Center. Originally constructed in 1906 by architect Grosvenor Atterbury for Carnegie Steel executive Henry Phipps, the Fulton Building has been redeveloped as a hotel following a multi-million-dollar restoration. The property was designed by Christine Shanahan of HVS Design, preserving historic architectural features while introducing updated interiors.
“This building has been part of Pittsburgh's story for more than a century,” Chris Johnson, general manager of The Atterbury, said in a statement. “Today we are proud to reintroduce it as a place where people will gather, celebrate, connect and create lasting memories. We believe The Atterbury will become an enduring part of the city's history and help define the next chapter of downtown Pittsburgh.”
The hotel offers 300 guestrooms and suites, including a presidential suite. Select accommodations include private terraces, while many rooms feature views of the Allegheny River and PNC Park.
The property also includes an art program inspired by architect Grosvenor Atterbury and his wife, Astelle. The collection features portraits, collages highlighting the history of the Fulton Building and Pittsburgh, murals by local artists and works reflecting the city's industrial heritage and cultural landmarks.
Public spaces include the restored rotunda and skylit atrium, where the hotel presents "The Moment," a twice-daily music and light installation. The experience can also be customized for meetings and events. Additional meeting amenities include The Fulton Room lounge and nearly 20,000 sq.-feet of meeting and event space.
Food-and-beverage operations are centered around The Drafting Room, which serves American cuisine and cocktails. The restaurant also plans to introduce weekend brunch in the coming months.
