The Candler Hotel, Curio Collection by Hilton opens in Atlanta

The Candler Hotel opened as the first Curio Collection by Hilton property in Atlanta.

Located in Downtown Atlanta, the property is a member of Historic Hotels of America. The Candler Hotel was built in 1906 for Coca-Cola founder and former mayor of Atlanta, Asa Griggs Candler. The 17-story high-rise was Atlanta’s first steel skyscraper.

After undergoing an expansive transformation, the building was reimagined as a hotel. Many of the building’s original Beaux-Arts architectural details – as well as the Gothic and Renaissance elements – were retained, including the marbleized lobby and the bank vault in the building’s basement, which is rumored to be the former hiding place of the sought-after Coca-Cola formula. Upscale modern conveniences were also incorporated.

Designer Nicole Hollis of the NicoleHollis firm led the interior design project, preserving the original lobby, grand marble staircase and authentic Tiffany windows, among others. With a playful nod to the hotel's architectural style, The Candler Hotel displays a curated collection of art that captures the spirit of Atlanta, then and now.

The 265 guestrooms, including 34 suites, have a residential feel with custom furnishings, high ceilings, rich textures and abundant natural light streaming through the expansive windows providing views in all directions. The rooms have electric charging ports in all headboards, flat-screen TVs and mini-fridges. The suites have a separate black-and-gold accented sitting area with a 55-inch HDTV and pull-out sofa, ideal for families.

For dining, the property has By George, a restaurant and bar that pays homage to the building’s original architects, George E. Murphy and George Stewart. In a corner of By George is a seating area donned by floor-to-ceiling windows that provide a backdrop to the social scene outside of the restaurant.

Beyond the glass doors of By George is the hotel’s lobby area that includes a reading nook and serves as the setting for wine tastings and afternoon tea hosted by the culinary team.

For events, the property has 6,000 square feet of function space, including a grand ballroom. The hotel can accommodate groups of up to 300 people.

The property also has a 24-hour fitness center with Peloton fitness technology, cardio equipment and weights.
