CitizenM opens Amsterdam, Zurich hotels

Dutch hospitality brand CitizenM has opened new hotels in Amsterdam and Zurich, expanding its presence to 18 properties globally, including London, Paris, New York, Amsterdam, Copenhagen and Kuala Lumpur.

CitizenM Amstel Amsterdam is located in the historic neighborhood of the Dutch capital city and is a conversion of an existing structure dating back to 1928, built in the Amsterdam School style of architecture.

The Zurich property is CitizenM’s first location in Switzerland (a second will open next year in Geneva) and is situated near Old Town, a few minutes from Lake Zurich. The façade features artwork by Jean-Vincent Simonet, who fuses analogue images, digital techniques, collage and montage.

This year, CitizenM has four openings worldwide, including in Kuala Lumpur, Malaysia and Boston.

CitizenM indicated it intends to keep growing as a fully integrated owner-operator in gateway cities, particularly those with the highest barriers to entry.

In Europe, target cities for new sites are London, Paris, Milan, Rome, Dublin, Munich, Hamburg, Frankfurt, Stockholm, Copenhagen and Barcelona. CitizenM also is looking for additional locations both in Zurich and Geneva.
