Benchmark opens medieval-inspired resort in Wisconsin

Making its debut as Wisconsin Dell’s first new-build resort in more than two decades, Dellshire Resort brings a medieval-inspired hospitality concept to the market.

Positioned as an upscale Midwest retreat, the 208-room property is part of Benchmark Resorts & Hotels and combines themed storytelling with full-service resort amenities designed for families, couples and groups. Located close to downtown Wisconsin Dells, the Wisconsin resort joins a destination known for its waterparks, outdoor recreation and tourism attractions.

A key part of the arrival experience is Golspar, a 70-foot steel dragon sculpture created by Las Vegas-based artist Kevin Stone. Weighing nearly 17,000 pounds, the installation is designed to serve as both a landmark and narrative element woven throughout the resort’s design.

“Wisconsin Dells has always drawn travelers who are looking for a trip beyond the ordinary, and Dellshire was created with that same spirit in mind,” Michael Lucero, general manager of Dellshire Resort, said in a statement. “The fantasy world we’ve created goes beyond architecture and lives in programming, rooms and dining. Guests are not just passing through a themed environment; they are actually participating in it.”

The property features a castle-inspired lobby with stone masonry, cathedral-style windows, a floor-inlaid compass, sculptural corbels and medieval-themed décor elements. Public spaces include The Thirsty Dragon lobby bar and Kettle & Keep marketplace, which offers grab-and-go food and retail items.

The resort’s 208 guestrooms and suites carry the medieval theme into the accommodations, with dark wood finishes, arched windows, iron accents and forest-inspired design elements. Room types range from standard guestrooms to multi-bedroom suites designed for larger families and groups. The largest unit, the King’s Quarters, spans 1,500 sq.-feet and accommodates up to 13 guests.

At the center of the resort’s amenities is Serpent’s Bay, an indoor-outdoor aquatic complex featuring multiple pools, splash areas, a children’s slide and an adults-only swim-up bar known as Scale Cove. Additional water features include The Grotto hot tub pavilion and outdoor pools with firepits, waterfalls and cabanas.

Dining is spread across five outlets, led by Blade & Barrel, a tavern-style restaurant focusing on regional ingredients and reinterpretations of classic dishes. The resort’s culinary program is overseen by Culinary Director Justin Draper.

For meetings and events, Dellshire offers 10,875-square-feet of function space within the Keystone Event Center. The facility includes the Chaucer-Troyes Ballroom, divisible meeting rooms, a pre-function foyer and the Troubadour Room for smaller gatherings and board meetings.

The resort is also preparing to launch Legends of Dellshire in summer 2026, a mixed reality experience that will use augmented reality technology to transform the property into an interactive narrative environment.
