Drury Hotels opens property on site of historic Mobile, Ala., hotel

St. Louis, Mo.-based Drury Hotels has opened its fifth property in Alabama following the repositioning of a hotel in Mobile.

The 186-room Drury Plaza Hotel Mobile was developed on the site of the former Drury Inn & Suites that operated for nearly four decades. Located off Interstate 65, the midscale hotel provides access to Mobile Regional Airport, the future Mobile International Airport, downtown Mobile, the University of South Alabama and the Mobile Convention Center.

The hotel offers a mix of guestrooms and suites, along with an outdoor pool and spa, fitness center, business center and approximately 1,900 sq.-feet of flexible meeting space. Two meeting rooms can accommodate events of up to 270 attendees.

On-site food-and-beverage options include complimentary breakfast, Drury's signature 5:30 Kickback evening reception with snacks and beverages, The Kitchen + Bar, a lobby restaurant and bar open nightly, and a guest market with 24-hour coffee service. The property will employ approximately 50 full- and part-time associates under the leadership of general manager Kevin Poehler.

“We are thrilled to welcome guests to the Drury Plaza Hotel Mobile,” Chuck Drury, CEO of Drury Hotels, said in a statement. “The new hotel makes it easy for travelers to enjoy the best the Gulf Coast has to offer, from historical landmarks and museums to shopping, music and waterfront dining.”

The Mobile opening is part of Drury Hotels' continued expansion across the southern U.S. Recent openings include hotels in Destin Miramar Beach, Fla.; Tampa Brandon, Fla.; Pigeon Forge, Tenn.; North Charleston, SC; Chattanooga, Tenn.; and College Station, Texas. The company also plans to open a hotel in the Century Farms development in southeast Nashville.
