Hotels open in Florida, California, Michigan

Hotels in key markets across the country have opened in recent weeks.

Florida

The Hotel Indigo Miami Brickell has opened in Florida, with design from architect and fashion designer Angel Sanchez of Sanchez + Coleman Studio. The Brutalist style of the interior architecture includes poured concrete and rigid geometric lines contrasted by the blue and yellow palette and mosaic theme that runs through all the spaces. The 140 guestrooms include local artwork and circular rugs inspired by the ancient Miami Circle archaeological site that is located close to the hotel. The site was key in telling the story of Miami Brickell’s earliest inhabitants—the indigenous Tequesta people, who lived in the area for more than 2,000 years.

The lobby has custom tilework and photography that depicts trailblazers Mary Brickell and Julia Tuttle (famed for helping to bring the railroad to Miami in the 1890s, resulting in the incorporation and eventual development and growth of the city) overlaid with a modern photograph of Brickell. The hotel also has an outdoor pool and an indoor fitness center as well as the Mosaico Kitchen and Bar.

The hotel is adjacent to the Miami Metromover, a free service that links downtown and Brickell area, and a short walk to Miami Metro rail and the Miami Cruise Port.

California

The Alila Marea Beach Resort Encinitas has opened in San Diego as the 16th hotel in the Alila portfolio. The 130-room property includes an oceanfront pool, a restaurant, indoor-outdoor meeting and event spaces and the Spa Alila.

Developed by San Diego-based investors JMI Realty and Fenway Capital Advisors, with construction by Suffolk Construction, the hotel is the brand's first new-build resort in the Americas and the third Alila property in the U.S. and California. The luxury hotel joins the new Alila Napa Valley and Ventana Big Sur, an Alila Resort in Big Sur, Calif.

“Marea” means “tide” in Italian and Spanish, so the resort has a distinctly Southern California feel, matching the area’s natural landscape. The hotel was designed by San Diego-based Joseph Wong Design Associates with interior design by Mark Zeff Associates, and includes pieces from locally based artist Aaron Chan.

The property has 130 guestrooms and suites that incorporate natural elements of the coastline, including wood, stone and organic lines that weave in the landscape. The majority of rooms have a balcony or patio, many of which include a private fire pit.

Michigan

The Delta Hotels Detroit Novi has opened in Michigan on the border of Farmington Hills and Novi. The hotel is owned by DG Hotels and managed by Cicero Hospitality Group.

DG Hotels acquired the property in November 2019 and underwent a $3 million renovation over the last year. It includes 139 guestrooms, an indoor swimming pool and a 24-hour fitness center. The hotel will also include a full-service restaurant and bar concept, a full-service standalone specialty coffee shop, and more than 2,000 square feet of meeting and event space.

“We are excited about our investment in Delta by Marriott Detroit Novi, making this our first hotel acquisition in Michigan, adding more than sixty permanent jobs, and tremendous service to the business and leisure customer,” said Martin Pakideh, principal of DG Hotels and Cicero Hospitality Group. Pakideh also owns hotels in Chicago and Palm Beach, Fla.
