IHG passes 200 open hotels in Canada; expands development pipeline

IHG Hotels & Resorts has eclipsed the 200-hotel milestone in Canada and is poised to further grow the portfolio with nearly 40 additional hotels in the development pipeline.

IHG expects to open six additional hotels in Canada this year, including Holiday Inn, Candlewood Suites and Staybridge Suites properties in Barrie, Aurora East, Pembroke and Woodstock. The planned openings follow seven hotels added in 2025, including a Crowne Plaza in Toronto and four Staybridge Suites properties.

The company's Canadian expansion also includes the introduction of additional brands. voco hotels recently signed its first Canadian properties in Montreal, Toronto, Vancouver and Niagara Falls. IHG also plans to introduce its Garner brand to Canada in 2027 with three conversion properties planned in southern Alberta, including Red Deer, Medicine Hat and an area near Calgary International Airport.
