IHG, The Lazizi Premiere partner for new Crowne Plaza airport hotel in Kenya

InterContinental Hotels Group partnered with The Lazizi Premiere to open the Crowne Plaza Nairobi Airport in Kenya. The 144-room Crowne Plaza is at the Jomo Kenyatta International Airport near its terminals and the capital city’s Wilson Airport.

“In line with our strategy to grow our presence in key markets across the African continent, we are delighted to be working with The Lazizi Premiere Limited to expand the Crowne Plaza portfolio in Kenya. With the strategic location of the hotel and world class amenities associated with the brand, we are confident that Crowne Plaza Nairobi Airport will be a popular choice with both business and transit passengers and will offer a perfect environment to relax after a hectic business trip or during a layover," Pascal Gauvin, MD, India, Middle East & Africa, IHG, said in a statement.

Now, IHG's portfolio across eight countries in Africa totals 25 operating hotels. Gauvin says the group plans to further expand this footprint across the continent more than 27 percent within the next three to five years.

“We are delighted to partner with a strong global player such as IHG to build our presence in Nairobi. Crowne Plaza has solidified its reputation as one of the top business hotel brands, globally and it made perfect sense for us to bring the brand to this location. Coupled with IHG’s strong, global distribution system and best in class revenue management tools, we are confident in success of the hotel. We look forward to demonstrating the hospitality to our guests, that both Kenya and Crowne Plaza are known for,” Shivan Patel, director, The Lazizi Premiere, said in a statement.

This is IHG's latest signing in the region, following the company's signing with Arabia Holding subsidiary Arabia Hotels to open Giza, Egypt's first IHG properties. The two properties—the 200-room Holiday Inn Giza Sun Capital and the 150-room Staybridge Suites Giza Sun Capital—will be developed within the Sun Capital mixed-use project. The hotels are slated to open in 2023 next to the development's shopping mall, Egyptian cultural-themed park and international university.
