Marriott brings JW brand to Maldives

Marriott International has opened the JW Marriott Maldives Resort & Spa on Vagaru island, Shaviyani Atoll in the Maldives.

The opening marks the debut of Marriott International’s JW Marriott brand in the Maldives. The new-build resort is an hour's seaplane flight from the south Asian country's capital city of Male.

The resort has 60 villas, including several designed for families. For guests focused on wellness, the resort has an overwater gym, an open-air pavilion for classes and a spa. Dining options include five restaurants and three bars. The resort also has a kids club, an adults-only infinity pool area at the tip of Vagaru island and a clubhouse with a cigar room, a shisha room and a billiards table.

A natural reef is just offshore, and an on-site marine biologist organizes diving and snorkeling excursions as well as other water sports.

The JW Marriott portfolio now has 85 hotels in more than 25 countries and territories.
