My Place opens 50th hotel

My Place Hotels of America opened its 50th hotel, the 63-unit My Place Watertown (S.D.), this week. The milestone arrives five years after the company launched its franchise system in 2014.

Locally based Watertown Hotel owns the property and Venerts Hotel Management operates it. My Place’s sixth hotel in South Dakota, it is located along Interstate 29 between Sioux Falls, S.D., and Fargo, N.D. Nearby attractions include the Redlin Art Center, Bramble Park Zoo and Lake Kampeska.

“Everything seems to be coming full circle for us as we welcome our newest hotel to the family in our home state of South Dakota,” Terry Kline, EVP of franchise sales at My Place Hotels, said in a statement. “While our momentum continues to accelerate exponentially across the country, at the core of all of our growth we’re still very proud to celebrate our South Dakota roots that got us to where we are today."

The hotel marks the brand’s first to include its newly design Generation 2 guestroom, My Place’s largest upgrade to its prototype. The new design includes larger counterspace and a backlit mirror in the bathroom, as well as updated room amenities.

“Watertown was an opportune location to open a My Place Hotel in based on the needs of the town currently,” Connie Ward, director of operations at Venerts Hotel Management, said in a statement. “With many construction projects in progress and an aggressive [convention and visitors bureau] booking new events in town, My Place is the right product to fill a need that the area currently lacks.”

My Place Hotels has more than 120 properties in its pipeline.
