Ritz-Carlton opens second New York property in NoMad

Marriott International has opened The Ritz-Carlton New York, NoMad, in midtown Manhattan. It's now Ritz-Carlton's second hotel in New York, complementing its Central Park property. Ritz-Carlton did have a hotel in Battery Park, but the owner terminated the management agreement in 2018 and subsequently rebranded the hotel as The Wagner.

The 50-story, 500-foot new-build NoMad property was developed by New York-based Flag Luxury Group.

Several design teams, including Rafael Viñoly Architects, Rockwell Group, Lazaro Rosa-Violan Studio, Martin Brudnizki and Sussurus International collaborated to give the hotel a design that pays homage to its location in the city’s Flower District. An art collection by art curator Culture Corps and its founding partner Yvonne Force Villareal includes local artists Pat Steir, Ross Bleckner and Donald Baechler. The property will display seasonal floral installations throughout.

Guestrooms

The hotel’s 250 guestrooms include 19 suites, with an additional 16 one- and two-bedroom penthouse residences. The guestrooms and public spaces all include natural elements and textures that reflect the soft curvature of petals alongside sleek accents and lines that echo New York City’s verticality and city grid. Inspired by residential-style living, guestrooms have bespoke furnishings and a neutral color palette that emphasize the light-filled living spaces and city views. The 2,100-square-foot Ritz-Carlton Suite on the hotel’s 37th floor has a private wellness room with a Peloton bike, separate living and dining areas, a media room and 194-square-foot walk-in closet as well as a dedicated service entrance.

Notably, the guestrooms are only on one side of the hotel, leaving the other side available for back-of-house needs and guaranteeing a consistency of south-facing views from all guest spaces.

Public Spaces

The hotel has a 6,800-square-foot signature spa and fitness center, including eight treatment rooms as well as separate sauna and steam rooms.

For meetings, the hotel has 10,000 square feet of meeting space, including a private outdoor terrace, with all banquet and catering culinary offerings also overseen by Andrés.

F&B

All culinary venues and in-room dining were developed by Michelin-starred chef José Andrés. Situated on the ground floor of the hotel, Zaytinya, a play on the Turkish word for olive oil, has a mezze menu and cocktails inspired by Turkish, Greek, and Lebanese cuisines. Designed by Rockwell Group, the 140-seat restaurant has a palette of bronze metals and white oak wood, with distinctive pops of blue and soft curves to evoke the Mediterranean.

Nubeluz is located on the hotel’s rooftop. It has 270-degree views across Manhattan, complemented by a menu of cocktails, light bites and an array of Tablas, where guests can build boards of hams, cheeses and snacks from Andrés' native Spain. Designed by Martin Brudnizki, the interiors combine reflective surfaces, textiles and modern materiality.

The Bazaar by José Andrés will make its New York debut in late 2022. Designed by Barcelona-based studio Lázaro Rosa-Viola, the space uses painted and natural wood, texturized glass, ceramic tiling and drapery to create a warm atmosphere.
