Pestana opens Madrid hotel

Portugal's Pestana Hotel Group has opened the Pestana Plaza Mayor Madrid in Spain's capital. The hotel is part of the group’s Collection brand.

The property is Pestana's second hotel in Spain, following the company's Spanish debut in Barcelona six years ago.

Located in Plaza Mayor, in the middle of the capital, Pestana Plaza Mayor Madrid takes up two historic buildings: the 17th century Casa de la Carnicería and an old fire station. The hotel is a short walk from other main attractions of the capital, such as the Cathedral and the Royal Palace. It is next to the Puerta del Sol and within walking distance to the Prado, Reina Sofia and Thyssen museums.

Pestana Plaza Mayor Madrid is the first hotel to open in Plaza Mayor. It has 89 rooms and suites, almost half of which face the Plaza Mayor square. Public space includes a rooftop pool, a spa, a fitness center, event space, a restaurant, a tapas bar and a cocktail bar.

Last year, Madrid received more than 10 million visitors.
