Woods Cove Inn—formerly a Sonder-branded hotel located along Laguna Beach’s Pacific Coast Highway—will reopen next week as an independent boutique property.

The 22-room California property is owned by hospitality entrepreneur Blake Marriott, who also developed the Bay Shores Peninsula Hotel. Woods Cove Inn was acquired after its closure and repositioned as an independent boutique hotel. Marriott partnered with Aliso Viejo, Calif.-based Parable Hospitality—which oversees more than 30 boutique hotels and resorts across the Pacific Coast and Hawaii—to manage the hotel.

“With a combination of beautiful design and an outstanding location, it was easy to recognize the property’s potential,” Marriott said in a statement. “Having operated as a lodging destination for more than a century, we believe it is uniquely positioned to thrive as an independent hotel.”

Parable Hospitality has appointed Didi Shields as general manager. Shields also oversees Bay Shores Peninsula Hotel and previously led the opening of El Caminante Bar & Bungalows in Dana Point.

Designed by CPD Studio, the hotel incorporates modern design elements with materials and textures inspired by nearby Woods Cove beach. The 22 guestrooms include natural wood finishes, marble bathrooms and commissioned artwork by local artist Jordan Nicole of High Desert Studios.

Guest amenities include beach-oriented items such as tote bags, cooler backpacks and hydration products, as well as in-room features including custom robes, linens and bath products. Public spaces include a lobby with a breakfast nook offering coffee, tea and pastries, along with a swimming pool and outdoor terrace.

Located near the shoreline in the Woods Cove neighborhood, the property is designed to offer a more residential setting while remaining close to Laguna Beach’s dining, retail and arts offerings.
