5 questions for PM Hotel Group's Kory Davis

Ahead of the upcoming Hotec North America conference, which is scheduled for June 27-30 at the JW Marriott Miami Turnberry Resort & Spa in Aventura, Fla., several industry insiders will be sharing their insights on how the hotel sector is adjusting to new normals. Hotec is sponsored by Questex Hospitality (parent company of Hotel Management).

Kory Davis, project manager of new builds and capital projects at PM Hotel Group, talked about new strategies, trends and technologies that are changing the industry.

How has your segment of the industry changed over the past year?

Materials and transportation costs have increased significantly over the last year. Also, port congestions have caused serious ocean vessel delays.

Of the strategies you developed last year to adjust to the crisis brought on by COVID-19, which ones were the most successful?

Our ability to find creative ways and utilize technology in different ways to engage clients, employees and partners without being face to face.

What are some new trends in the industry that you think will have staying power in 2021?

The increased focus on outdoor spaces and implementing creative social distance tactics while still providing a quality experience for our guests.

What are some ways technology has been helping you through this crisis?

The obvious platforms, such as Zoom and Microsoft Teams, have been a vital part of our communication process to keep things moving. They allowed us to do valuable check-ins with one another in those moments.

What is the most valuable thing you learned in 2020 and how will you apply it to your business moving forward?

Always be prepared to expect the unexpected! Stay positive and be able to adapt to how we can best assist our guests and clients.

Applications are still open for buyers and suppliers.
