Beyond Green joins 1% for the Planet to support environmental causes

Beyond Green, a portfolio of sustainable hotels, resorts and lodges, has joined 1% for the Planet, committing to donate 1 percent of the brand’s annual sales to support non-profit organizations focused on environmental issues.

Founded to accelerate smart environmental giving and prevent greenwashing, 1% for the Planet’s environmental partners are vetted organizations working toward a wide array of solutions, from climate justice and urban infrastructure to gender equality; indigenous land rights to supply chain sustainability; conservation policy to environmental education and beyond. The organization has more than 6,500 partners in 111 different countries. Their partners are categorized into four impact areas; Rights to Nature; Conservation and Restoration; Resilient Communities; and Just Economies.

Since its launch in April 2021, Beyond Green has established an esteemed reputation among travelers and the wider travel community for its holistic approach to sustainable tourism. Travelers are becoming increasingly savvy when it comes to sustainability, demanding more transparency from the companies they support. By partnering with 1% for the Planet, guests can further maximize the positive impact of their Beyond Green bookings.

"Following our launch, we sought to connect Beyond Green with like-minded brands for considered partnerships that align with our overall purpose," Preferred Travel Group CEO Lindsey Ueberroth said in a statement. "By working with 1% for the Planet, we are excited to further fulfill our commitment to supporting environmental causes."

Driven by an unwavering belief that to travel with purpose is to travel well, Beyond Green represents sustainability leadership in action and impact, with a mission and purpose to transform the global travel and tourism industry, where sustainability is the rule and not the exception. Centered on three core values—Nature, Culture, and Community—Beyond Green’s global members go beyond being eco-conscious to embrace fundamental principles such as fair wages, gender equality, and the safeguarding and celebrating of cultural heritage.

"Currently, only 3 percent of total philanthropy goes to the environment and only 5 percent of that comes from businesses," said Kate Williams, CEO of 1% for the Planet. "The planet needs bigger support than this, and our growing network of business members are doing vital work to increase giving and support on-the-ground action. We're excited to welcome Beyond Green to our global movement."

By contributing 1 percent of their annual sales, thousands of 1% for the Planet’s members have raised millions in funding to support environmental partners around the globe, with over $530 million having been certified to date.
