Crowne Plaza Lake Placid (N.Y.) gets new management

Essex Hotel Management has added Crowne Plaza Lake Placid in Lake Placid, N.Y., to its portfolio of hotels on the East Coast—the first IHG property in the company's portfolio.

Built in 1969, the property has been owned and operated by the Lussi family for more than 50 years. The hotel rebranded as a Crowne Plaza in 2005 after several expansions.

“We’re thrilled to be managing our second hotel in Lake Placid and excited about our expanded relationship with the Lussi Family,” Essex Hotel Management President Barbara Purvis said in a statement. “We’ve continued to strengthen our team and portfolio over the years, and the dedicated and hard work of our team has produced significant results not only for us but also for our owners. The addition of Crowne Plaza Lake Placid to our portfolio speaks volumes about what we’ve been able to accomplish as a company.”

Located in the center of the Village of Lake Placid, the 246-room property has views of Mirror Lake and the Adirondack Mountains, including the High Peaks and Whiteface Mountain. The suites in the newer Adirondack wing have kitchens, fireplaces and balconies.

Public spaces at the hotel include MacKenzie's Restaurant, the Adirondack Great Room and Bar, an indoor pool with a hot tub as well as a fitness room. The property also has 22,000 square feet of flexible function space.

“Our family has been enjoying a 12-year successful partnership with Essex in another hotel venture in Lake Placid, and we are confident they will be a wonderful addition to our partnership with the Crowne Plaza,” said Cristina Lussi, one of the property’s owners.

The Crowne Plaza is located adjacent to the Lake Placid Olympic Center and close to the shops and restaurants in the Village.
