Mr & Mrs Smith joins World of Hyatt platform

Nearly a year after Hyatt Hotels Corp. announced plans to acquire London-based luxury hotel platform Mr & Mrs Smith for £53 million, the World of Hyatt platform has added more than 700 boutique and luxury hotels and villas from the collection of 1,500 properties.

The participating properties from the Mr & Mrs Smith portfolio add more than 20 new countries to World of Hyatt Such as Namibia, Fiji and the British Virgin Islands.

Laurie Blair, VP of global marketing at Hyatt, said the initial 700 hotels are only a start. “We're going to be adding more, even in the coming months. And then because of the … ongoing relationship, this is something that will continue to expand over time.” Some of the Mr & Mrs Smith hotels are already affiliated with other brands and will not be joining the Hyatt platform.

“The integration of so many Mr & Mrs Smith hotels in the World of Hyatt gives us the opportunity to expand our reach to new audiences while sustaining our thoughtful curation standards,” Tamara Lohan, co-founder and chief executive officer, Mr & Mrs Smith, said in a statement. The addition of the hotels and villas curated by Mr & Mrs Smith complements the recently announced pipeline of more than 35 new luxury properties across Hyatt’s Timeless, Boundless, Independent and Inclusive Collection brands.

“Of all the major hotel chains, Hyatt gets the leisure luxury customer the best,” Lohan said during a press conference. “They do things differently, and their purpose of care is so aligned with how we at Mr And Mrs Smith think about our customers and our hotels. And so when [co-founder] James [Lohan] and I were looking for a forever home for Mr & Mrs Smith, they were just the perfect fit.”
