Coast Hotels buys Regency Suites Hotel Calgary

Coast Hotels, a subsidiary of APA Hotel Canada, Inc., has entered into an agreement to purchase the Regency Suites Hotel in downtown Calgary, Alberta, Canada, from SM2 Capital Partners. The property will be rebranded immediately as the Coast Calgary Downtown Hotel & Suites by APA and will open under the Coast Hotels flag starting April 12.

The hotel is a 120-room, all-suite property in downtown Calgary. Accommodations include 450-square-foot studio suites, 650-square-foot one-bedroom suites and 850-square-foot two-bedroom suite. All suites have master bedrooms with king or queen beds, separate living areas and kitchens. Public spaces include a fitness center, 24-hour business center, on-site laundry facilities, same-day drycleaning and a grab-and-go convenience store.

“The acquisition of this high-quality hotel allows our company continued strategic growth and expansion and aligns very well with our existing Alberta properties located in Edmonton, Canmore, and Lethbridge," said Takamasa Machiura, EVP of Coast Hotels, in a statement. "The current owners of the hotel, the Ali family and SM2 Capital Partners, have very similar values as Coast Hotels.”

The hotel, while a Coast property, will carry the “by APA” tagline and will be upgraded with standard signature features of APA Hotels including 55-inch 4K HD Televisions, Toto Washlets and in-room Japanese amenities like slippers and welcome origami cranes.

Calgary will be the fourth hotel addition to Coast Hotels's Canadian network in recent months. Since Feb. 1, Coast has added properties in Grimshaw, Alberta; Fort St. John, British Columbia; Dawson City, Yukon; and Calgary, Alberta. A fifth property in Sechelt, British Columbia, will be joining the chain in the next 60 days.
